Influencer Earnings Comparison: Income, Equity, and Liquid Wealth

Compare typical creator pay, top cash earnings, and why equity wealth does not equal spendable cash.

Most influencers earn modest cash income, while a few top stars earn tens of millions and hold billions in paper equity. Income means spendable cash from ads, deals and sales, equity means ownership value in a company, and liquid wealth means cash you can actually spend. That gap shapes every net worth number. A creator can rank high on earnings lists from yearly cash flow yet hold little equity, or hold a huge stake yet borrow for daily costs.

How much does a typical creator make?

More than half of all creators earned under $15,000 in a year, up from 48% in 2023, according to the Influencer Marketing Hub/NeoReach 2025 Creator Earnings Report in the 2025 creator earnings breakdown. Growth in the industry has not lifted typical pay. Most creators remain part-time earners with small audiences and irregular deals.

Full-time professional creators are different but rare. They reached a $133,000 median in 2025, yet they are a small fraction of all creators. Most full-timers still earn below a US living wage.

What do the top creators earn in cash?

Forbes estimated the top 50 creators collectively earned $853 million from April 2024 to April 2025, up 18% from $720 million the prior year, according to the Forbes Top Creators 2025 ranking. Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, ranked No. 1 with about $85 million in gross earnings, ahead of Dhar Mann at about $56 million.

These figures count cash income from ads, brand deals, merchandise and business income. Forbes explicitly excludes equity held in companies. That choice separates liquid income from paper wealth. A high cash rank does not mean the same person holds the largest company stake.

Why does billion-dollar equity not buy lunch?

Beast Industries, Donaldson's holding company for YouTube, Feastables and other brands, raised at about a $5-$5.2 billion valuation led by Alpha Wave Global, with Donaldson owning just over half, according to CelebrityNetWorth reporting on Bloomberg. That stake produced about $2.6 billion in paper net worth.

Paper value reflects what the share could be worth in a sale, not money in a bank account. Donaldson told the Wall Street Journal he was borrowing money and that equity "doesn't buy me McDonald's." The line is blunt but useful. Unless shares are sold, borrowed against or paid out as profit, they cannot pay staff, fund videos or cover living costs.

What cuts take-home creator cash?

Ad income scales only after meeting program rules and advertiser demand. YouTube's Partner Program pays creators 55% of net revenue from eligible watch-page ads.

A channel needs views on eligible pages, not just total views. Taxes and disclosure also reduce usable income:.

  • US creators must clearly disclose any material brand connection.
  • Self-employed creators with net earnings over $400 pay income tax plus about 15.3% self-employment tax, according to the Intuit TurboTax explanation of IRS rules.
  • Brand gifts, free travel and product loans can count as connections that need disclosure.
